Why book an On Location Newborn Photographer?

I have wanted to write this post for a while now, as I hear so many clients say “We love that you come to us!”  So I thought I would explain a little bit more about “On location Newborn Photography”, what it means and how it all works.  Basically, I create studio style images, in the comfort of your own home with my portable studio.  Here are a few reasons why on location photography is so awesome!Toowoomba Newborn Photographer Sarah Gage Photography 3

1. Convenience

I bring everything that is required for your shoot to your home.  Your lounge room will be transformed into a mini “studio” for the morning.  You don’t have to travel anywhere, which I know can be a very daunting task with a new baby and then there is siblings to think about too!  Here is what it will look like once I set up in your home. I don’t need a lot of space, just somewhere nice and quiet and warm.  Usually a lounge room or spare room is more than enough space.  We can shift furniture if we need to. Lighting is not an issue, as I provide all that too.  Backdrops, props, blankets etc are also provided.  You will receive studio quality images, taken in the comfort of your own home. I travel all over the Darling Downs region so this is a great service for rural clients who may not wish to make the trip back into Toowoomba after just having had a baby.

A Note for Photographers – I use the Alien Bee 400 Lighting, with a Westcott 50×50 Softbox and I shoot with Canon 5D Mark 3 and 24-70 2.8 II Lens.

2. Comfort and safety

For a newborn session to run smoothly, a calm and comfortable environment is a must.  While you are home with your new baby, I invite you to sit back and relax while I work my magic photographing your little miracle. Read a book, watch TV, fold your washing, eat your lunch, or even better, have a nap if you like!  I’ve seen many new mums have a little snooze during the shoot which is perfectly fine, you have just given birth and need your rest!  I do ask that heating is turned on before I arrive to create a nice warm environment.  I also bring with me a heater and will have some soothing white noise playing. I will photograph parents, siblings and family shots first, you can even leave your pj pants and slippers on if you like!  Thats the beauty of having the session in your own home, you can relax and be yourself we don’t have to rush anything.  You can also be assured of your babies safety during the shoot.Newborn Baby Photographer Toowoomba Award Winning

3. Weather

Let’s face it, Winter in Toowoomba can be miserable!  Who wants to go outside in the freezing cold, let alone take a brand new baby out in the elements with all those nasty winter germs about? My set up is completely portable, it all fits in the back of my car (amazingly!).  You can stay inside where it is nice and warm, feed your baby while I unpack my car and set up the studio. You don’t have to worry about your precious bundle picking up any nasty bugs being outside in the cold.  Your babies health and safety is my priority.  All of the blankets used are thoroughly washed after each shoot, and my vaccinations are all up to date.

4.Siblings

On average, a typical newborn shoot with family and siblings can take up to 3 hours.  By having the shoot in your home, we can photograph your children together at the beginning of the session, then they are free to go back to their normal routine at home.  You don’t have to worry about having to entertain a toddler in a studio for hours, as we all know they can get bored, hungry and are always full of energy! For babies safety and for the newborn session to run smoothly, I do recommend having an additional adult come and supervise your toddler for the morning whilst I photograph your newborn, which is a great time for Grandparents to be involved too.

5. Timing

I schedule all of my newborn shoots for mornings, generally starting at 9.30am and finishing up by 1pm.  I only ever schedule 1 newborn shoot per day, so I’m not rushing to get you finished and will take the extra time at the end if we need it.  I will pack up and leave everything as I found it, moving furniture back into its place and taking all of my belongings with me.  You don’t have to worry about studio schedules, rushing to pack up and getting the next client in, thats not going to happen,  my focus is completely on you and your baby.

6. Saves you time and money

By having your session at home, it will save you travel time to and from a studio, parking costs etc.  And with a new baby on board, who doesn’t love that?!

Now by saying all this I’m not saying that going to a studio is bad, I would LOVE to have my own studio one day.  Please just make sure that you are going to a professional, that they have the appropriate training and insurance, are fully vaccinated, and that your baby  is going to be photographed in a safe professional environment.  Booking an AIPP accredited photographer will guarantee you of this.   I am so happy with how my little on location set up is working for now, and knowing it makes my clients lives much easier is a bonus.  Thanks for reading, I hope this gives you a little insight into what your on location shoot with me is going to be like. If you have any questions or would like to book in for your shoot, please get in touch with me today. Sarah xoxo
